Mullingar

On Tuesday all of the Transition Years were off to Mullingar, in Westmeath to perform our English play based on the poem, "But You Didn't" by Merryl Glass. We left the school at about 9.10 am and we were on the bus for about an hour, so it wasn't that bad. When we got there is was about 10.40 and there was only us there so we didn't have to perform the play in front of people; we liked that idea because we were so nevous. We managed to do both plays without messing up or forgeting lines. In the play I was like a army general so I had to wear a suit , and it looked so cool because my mam put like badges and chains on it to make it look army like. Afterwards we were able to walk down to the town so most of us went to McDonalds. It was so good and then we went back and we saw others schools perfomr theirs; there came all the way from Donegal, and they were really funny. We got back to the school at about 3.59 so that was grand.

Technology

In technology this week we finished our clocks that we made. They look so cool because they are green and the have got a red centre piece, mine is a star. We had to saw out green plasic to make the shape, we had to make it really smooth. We then heat the plastic so we could bend it, after that we made our centre piece, we glued it to the clock. After that we just sort of finished it off by putting stickers on it , I got my stickers to look like the numbers; 3, 6, 9 and 12 on a real clock, and then I put on like the hands of the clock and a battery pack. It look so cool and I can't wait to bring it home to show my mam what I made. :)

17th - 21st of January

I don't think a lot happened at the start of this week. :( It was Stephanie's 16th birthday on the the 18th so we spent the whole day singing "Happy Birthday" to her ..............in ..........every...........class :) She got a tattoo for her birthday and I think it is so cool, it is a peace sign and a love heart blended together to make a treble clef. She already has her next one planned! On Wednesday we got to have a half day due to school planning so we got off at 12.40, it was grand because I had planned to go down to Scoil Naomh Brid ; my old school, to ask the principal whether i could have permission to do work experience there in March. It was grand because she said yes so I don't have to worry about waiting till the last minute. We also had another half day on the Thursday because there was the Ty and 5th Year Parent Teacher Meeting, so again we got off at 12.40. My mam didn't go to the meeting because my little brother was sick.

BT Young Scientist Exhibition!

On the 14th of January 2011, all of the Transition Years and the Second Years were off to the RDS in Dublin for a Science and Technology Exhibition. In St. Wolstans we had two groups that were accepted into the competition; one from TY and one from 5th year. It took us about an hour to get there but when we did there had to be about 400-500 people there! Girls and boys from schools all over Ireland and age 10-18. We got in there and it was really hard to get around because there was so many people and you didn't really get to see the projects due to people pushing and shoving you. I met up with some of my friends and we walked around and the first thing we went to was the Robot Wars, which was pretty fun because we got drenched. We managed to find our way around so that we saw everything. It was so fun because people were giving away things left, right and centre; I think I got about 50 pens and 20 pencils along with highlighters, etc. Other things that we got were Frisbee's and badges. We then went outside where we could get either Eddie Rockets or a cup with chocolate and marshmallows so we went for the cup of chocolate. It lasted the whole day and we got back to school at about 3 and we tried to get Mr. Dooly to let us go home 20 mins early but.........he said no :(

Exam Results

Over the last few days we had been given back our christmas exam results and I didn't do really well but I did try my hardest, so that's all that counts. It was grand because we only have 5 exams so it wasn't that bad because we only had to study the small amount of stuff we actually learned. It will be a lot harder in 5th Year because we have more exams and they will be a lot harder.

2011

Hey, we are now back in school and the first week is going ok to be honest. Today on the 13th of Jan we had a guest speaker come in to talk to us about WEEE Ireland. His name was Anthony and the talk was really interesting because we learned about what happenes when you donate like cookers and fridges, etc. I thoroughly enjoyed it because I learned a lot of new things about recycling and I am definately going to take some of what he was talking about on board, like recycling batteries and old mobile phones.

Christmas week

On the week starting 20th of December, everyone start doing their Christmas Exams. But seeing as we are in TY, we only have 5 exams instead of like 14. The only exams we had were: English, Irish, Maths, Spanish and Religion. They were actually okay because it wasn't really tests, just to see what sort of pace we are at. after the exams we could just go home while other years had one more exam to do everyday. (: Our exams only lasted 2 days, we had 3 exams on Monday and 2 on Tuesday. It was grand because we were finished. And on the Wednesday we had planned to go to Newbridge to go bowling but we didn't et to go because of the bad weather. Our principal was worried because of the bad weather that it was dangerous to put a bus on the road. So Ms L. said that she would arrange for us to go after the Christmas because of all the hard work we have been doing in TY., so that should be fun: day off school :)

The week before Christmas week

I forgot to write about what happened on Monday the 13th of December: I had my Irish Orals which went suprisingly well because our teacher Mr. S made it so easy and just asked us about our family and like how many bedrooms our houses had. It was easy.... :) We also had a religion practical today, where we had to bring in a few stuff in order to make like a Christmas wreath. We had to bring in oasis, a purple candle, leaves and evergreens and a candle holder. It took up the whole class but it was a lot of fun but the classroom was covered in like leaves. It was really fun and it takes a break away from school work. When we got to bring them home they looked amazing so I really pleased with mine and my mam loved it and still has it on her kitchen unit now.

Breakfast in School

On the 16th of December, the other TY class Emnet has organised for my class Amina to have like a breakfats in school because it was like a week untill Christmas so they made like tea/coffee, there was biscuits and cakes and bread and toast etc. It was in the 2nd year mall and there was just a lot of food so we could all go up and it was like self service, that you could just take what you wanted and how much you wanted. It didnt't even feel like we were in school because there was music and all. And it was really loud like we were listening to like Rihanna and Willow Smith so it was like being at a disco and we were dancing and all even Ms. L got up and did a few moves. We all got given out to after by another teacher because the music was so loud, we were all just there laughing because it's not everyday a teacher gets in trouble.

Bagpacking

On the 10th of December we were asked by Kellie and Siobhan whether we would like to go to Tesco's today and pack people's bags for a charity. A lot of us thought that it would be a great idea and would make our TY experience even better by helping a good cause. When we went down there was about 8 of us so some of us were packing people's bags and about 2 were sitting at the front door and asking people would they like to enter a competition. We did that from 4 - 7 so it was really good and we raised a lot of money. Some people even came in the next day to help again raise money for a charity, I think it was the Irish Cancer Society. So about 5 people came in on Saturday including me and it started at 10 and ended at about 6. I did it from like 12 - 6. It was a lot more fun than what I thought it was going to be because you got to spend the whole day with friends and it was just a fun experience altogether.

Home Ec Fashion Show

It was the 10th of December and it was announced a couple of months ago that we would be having a fashion show were we would select a model and make an outfit from our own ideas and the model would walk up and down showing off the outfit to the judges. Our model was Clara and I thought that the outfit that we had made was amazing because we worked so hard on it. We had no help from the teachers at all and had to sew things and paint things to personalize it. It was a good experience because we were totally dependant on our own skills so that made it harder.

Dress up Day

On the 9th of December it was a dress up day to represent Christmas Time! so everyone had to come in to school wearing like santa hats and dress up and most people came in with boxes and they were presents. Some teachers even came in with santa hats on them so it cheered everyone up. There was sort of a cat walk were you could walk up and down and show off the christmas outfit that you were wearing. There was a lot of people who came in wearing santa suits and it was really funny because people couldn't stop laughing. People out of each year even won prizes for having the best Chrsitmas outfit. It was a good day anyway.

Snow

From the 29th - 3rd of December 2010 we didn't have to go to school because there was A LOT if snow and the roads were really bad so nobody could make it to the school. I mean it, it was really bad because there was almost a foot of snow and when I walked out in it,I think it was on Wednesday it was up to my knees, so we were lucky that we didn't have to go to school.

Podcasting

On the 26th of November 2010 we went to room 23 and there was these two guys and they said that they were going to be showing us how make a podcast. So we were put into teams of like 5 or 6 people and we had to write our own podcast and we had to try make it funny so that if people heard it on the radio, it would make them laugh. So my group we made ours about how there is a lot of chinese, Italian, etc take away shops in Ireland but no Irish take aways. It was really funny because some of us had to put on a strong country accent which made it funnier. And at the end everyone came back in to room 23 and we listened to all of the podcasts and it just made it even funnier because everybody was in bits when they were listening to the other ones. It was a good experience and it was worth while doing because it was fun and even the teachers were laughing so that was a bonus! :)

Science Trip

On the 16th of November we all went on a little science trip to the State Lab which is about a 10 minute drive from our school. Whe we got there we were split up into like 3 or 4 groups and we were just shown around the labs and people explained what they do there. We were brought to like where they test milk and other dairy products and it was really interesting because you learned things that you didn't know before so it was really a good expeience. The people there were really friendly and they helped us understand what it was like to work in a place where there is a lot of food and animal testing.

Naas

On the 15th of November 2010 we went to Naas again for another meeting about our Mini-Companies and it went really good because we got to talk about how we are getting on with our project. So the next time we go to one of these meetings in Naas, we will be able to bring a sample of our bracelets and show them to everyone and explain how we made them, so that should be fun:)
